Edcom - Leveling Up!

edcom

Edcom, edcom, edcom.

English Department Community is the only organization made by English Department students. So if you are an ED, and if you send a text to others and put your name with ED (just example, Cahyo ED '10), you should know what Edcom is. You know, I think it should be Edor (English Department Organization) instead of Edcom. No I’m serious, Edcom is much more "organized" than a common "community". Just join Edcom and you’ll know what I mean.

I won’t tell you about Edcom in a great detail now. I just want to tell you a story.

Just like another student organization, everything is started with an upgrading. Technically, Upgrading is an activity to upgrade. In my own words: upgrading is an activity to know each other before running the organization, oh you think so?

The story began in front of 3rd Building of FSSR, it was Saturday morning. New comers of Edcom stand up in line performing opening ceremony of upgrading. Just like common ceremony, there must be someone giving a speech, and bla-bla-bla, the ceremony was end.

The agenda was continued with a preparation for departure to next destination. Yes you are right again: Tawangmangu, it always Tawangmangu (I think forever will be there). A far, cold, and quiet place with such as beautiful scenery.  A suitable place to get away from the arrogance of the city for a moment.

Around 8 o'clock we were on a bus, an absence was done (just for formality because I know it does not change anything). The journey begins with a prayer, then the bus started to run. We were on our way to Solo, Karanganyar, then climbed into Tawangmangu. We'd better get ready, because it will be a lot of beautiful scenery during the trip.

The bus was getting higher and higher. To the sky

We arrived at Tawangmangu about 11 o'clock. If you think this is the lunch time, then you're wrong. Upon arrival, there is someone who plays swing, lifts the goods, hold a mat, manipulate a laptop, install the projector cable, and pay attention to some paintings in the wall (the lady face in the painting is somehow scary if you really think about it).

When everything’s ready, the first material was presented, then we made some rules for the upgrading (not to be done, but to prepare for the event in the night*). Useful material has been delivered, each group has been formed, yells and dances have been shown, so it’s the time to lunch!

The meals was pretty good if we remember that the fee was only IDR 20k.

Those were what happened during the first day: meals, materials, meals, materials, and then sleep. Actually those are what the "de-missioner" (ex member of Edcom) know, they do not know what can be done by a bunch of labile students like us in that day.

The second day

Breakfast, then outbound; two nice things to do in the morning--except if the activity order is reversed. I don’t know what they were thinking about, but the outbound was truly imitating a kingdom era. Let me tell you, the first one we went to the site by horse cart, then we save a princess, and finally a water war. I'm sure that we could take a lesson from these activities (even though I do not know what it is).

After that we were taking a bath, eating, and preparing to go home.

Well, well, and who would think that the upgrading has finished. Forgive me for telling the story with terrible details. But overall those activities were very enjoyable.

We can feel very happy by just imagining that next year we will perform that event again.

Okay, see you later, thanks in advance.

*you'll know what I mean if only you join our activities in that time.
